SignUp
SignUp is a free Google Chrome Extension that overlays sign language interpretations onto movies and TV shows for Disney+ and Netflix. Created in 2021 during the pandemic by the then 17 year old Mariella Satow, it is a world first and went viral overnight.
Our journey with SignUp started when Jamie tuned in to BBC Radio 4 one afternoon and heard an interview with Mariella. He was struck by her journey (financing the whole project with cash from her dog walking business) and her mission to bring the magic of TV and movies to the young Deaf community. Totally inspired, we reached out to offer our services.
We developed an identity for SignUp that’s loaded with meaning. Built around the universal symbol for sign language, we gave our logo eyes - a literal link to the brand purpose. Combined, these two elements create a logo that’s packed full with the type of playful character you’ll find in your favourite kids movie or Disney animation. The end result is joyful, iconic and loveable. A brand identity that holds its own in the logo-heavy world of streaming and apps yet is both engaging for the young SignUp audience and deeply meaningful too.

What we did
"I met with Jamie and we talked about SignUp, who our users are and the image that would suit us best as we work on improving accessibility for the Deaf community. The logo is inspired by the universal symbol for sign language, with eyes added to reference our viewers. I particularly like the font and all the symbols, my favourite is the box of popcorn! xforwhy are great collaborators. Our tech team loved what they produced and working with them. The meetings were so fun to be on and Jamie and his team have thoughtful and innovative ideas. They took onboard feedback and we are thrilled with the end result.
